What can you see? Tell me the last picture.  I added the popcorn and fizzy pop one in a second time, not sure if I have to do the whole posts again or not.  As Janna would say this stuff is "organic", meaning they are in the moment. It's never fun to re-do a post....


And while I'm at it, can I tell you about my new favorite spot?  For the first time in a long time I have kept the spare room clean.  'Membah how I have my office in the closet, so I can just shut the closet doors when guests come over.  It's a great idea in theory, but unfortunately the whole "shut the door" part has spilled over to the whole room and I just shut it to hide all the crap I've piled on the guest bed.  Well, not this past week or so.  This room has stayed spic and span!  I put up a world map (that I got at a garage sale, thank you very much) on one wall and I can sit on the bed (like I am now) and look at the map.  I love it.  You know how they're always saying "your bedroom is your sanctuary blah blah blah"?  Well, our room appears to be the laundry hamper.  And towel rack. And workout room. And I-don't-know-where-this-goes-so-I'll-stick-it-on-the-dresser room.  Not much of a sanctuary.  But the spare room...ahhh, there's a beautiful place.  I can sit on the bed with beagles around me, listen to podcasts, and work on my little felty felt crafties.  Now that's what I call a Saturday night, kids.

Podcasts?  Oh yes, I have discovered the podcast world.  At first I was just into CBC, especially DNTO, but Em Dawg introduced me to This American Life (Steph, I know you love this too).  My current obsession though is "Stuff you should know".  SO GREAT.  It's these two guys telling you all about a topic.  And there is pretty much any topic you can think of.  It's the best when I'm walking the dogs.  Or working on a craft.

I'm going to post some pictures now.  Can you see them?  They are hot pads - my newest felt craft.  Made from re-purposed wool sweaters (I felted them) and the green and yellow bits are synthetic felt, not as lovely but scraps I have on hand.

A new tradition: popcorn and fizzy pop for supper!
We love it. We make our treats, and snuggle onto the couch and watch a movie.
Last friday we watched "Shrek Ever After". Loved it.

Mom bought me a super fabulous lightweight suitcase (it has a butterfly on it!) but the best part seems to be the box it came in.

Hands down, BEST Christmas card I've ever received!

The important part is that this came in the mail a week or so ago.  March 2011. 

I love it and laugh every time I read it.  Steph, I have thought of doing something like this but have never executed it with such style and humour.  You are fabulous, as always.

Later that night (you will notice the jim jams haven't changed), we made pizzas. Maddie was very generous with her toppings.

The Scene:
7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, I'm drinking coffee (trying desperately to wake up), Madge is watching a movie...and talking non stop

Me:  (wishing she would sit quietly so I could just drink my coffee in peace...)  "Either watch the movie or we'll shut it off and you can just talk"
Madge:  "OK!" (jumps up, turns the tv off and doesn't stop talking)

(it was a rookie mistake, what was I thinking?  obviously, time to pour another cup of coffee...)

Maddie came out of her room this morning and asked:

"Mommy, is it spring today?"

I think she may feel the same way about winter that I do.

All done winter.  Buh bye.  

Yesterday Grandma, Maddie, Mackenzie and I went for a walk to see the horses. It was snowing a lot and very wet but also warm and nice for a walk. Just after we arrived another family joined us - with apples for the horses. They gave Maddie two or three apple slices for the horses.


Today it rained ALL DAY LONG. RAINED. All. Day. Long.

So....I didn't ski and neither did the kids. Instead Maddie, Jackson and I sliced up a couple apples and headed out in the rain to see the horses again. We were SOAKED when we came home. Maddie fell about a hundred times and at one point I turned around to see her on her belly, laughing her head off, swimming in a puddle.

Ahh, what's a little rain.

Our Fernie Trip....

Dear Readers,

I'm sure you've been missing me like crasy, so, let me catch you up on a few things...

1. Arrived Saturday night after a successful drive (by that I mean, Maddie was a Very Good Traveler - which she reminded me several times)

1.1 We arrived but discovered my bag did not arrive...this meant I had nothing except my ski pants, jacket, and shiny new mitts.  No clothes, no toothbrush (etc), no goggles. No. Swim. Suit.  (= no hot tub for Jenny Wenny)

1.2 Went shopping very quickly at Marks Work Wearhouse (while Lisa, Ken and Marion bought groc).  Bought the bare min and have been wearing it every day since.

2.0 The snow is INSANE here.  I believe Jackson referred to it as "epic".  Sweet, you might say?  There is a lot and it is snowing now as I speak.  For example:  we went down a run, got back on the chair, go all the way to the top and our tracks were almost filled in.  For the first time ever I had "first tracks" on a run.  So cool.  AND I skied in the trees.  On purpose.  

2.1 The kids have been in ski school the past two days.  Madge and Mackenzie go 9-12 and Jackson goes all day.  Maddie is really loving it. Today they learned how to make "pizzas" and she skiied down the hill "by herself".  

3.0 I was attacked by a Grizzly Bear. It was touch and go for a bit but I fought it off with my pole.  Now I have one racing pole (aka bent to shit) and one regular.  I ski with a limp now...  And my left thumb is very swollen (ok, only a little bit swollen).  I know what you're thinking:  Aren't the bears cozy warm in their den, hibernating?  Lisa and I thought so too.  Not true and I have the bent pole and swollen thumb to prove it.  Too bad Lisa couldn't get The Bear Attack on film.  But really, in such a crisis situation - who has time for a camera?

Tomorrow I am hoping to wrap my camera in a cozy little towel, throw it in my backpack and take some pictures OUTSIDE of the condo.  Hopefully get some of Maddie skiing.  Or maybe I'll just sweet talk Lisa into letting me post some of her pictures.

The start of our fashion show:
Here is the latest White Sweater from Grandma Pollock. So pretty with the lacey trim. It washes so well and is SO SOFT.

Once again, thank you so much Grandma Pollock. You do good work!

Oh, and it goes so well with Sweat Pants. Very very important in our house. It's either dresses or sweatpants. Nothin' else, kids.

Maddie:  What kind of kleenex is in my body?

Me:  What?

Maddie:  Grandma B said there is kleenex in my body.

extra long pause (it's 6:45 a.m.)

Me: OHHH, your body is made of tissue.


Note to readers:
Grandma B is not, in fact, giving biology lessons of her own accord.  Maddie found some science books in her stash when Grandma and Grandpa were here last and Grandma had the good fortune (??) of going through the book with Maddie and attempting to answer the eleventy billion questions...
