Christmas 2012

I would have to say this has been our most relaxing Christmas because we didn't have to travel.  At. All.  And we spread it out.  Waaay out.  Ken, Marion, and Bruce came here to celebrate with us.  We hosted Christmas Day at our place.  Christmas Eve we started a tradition (?) of watching a movie together.  I suggested National Lampoons Christmas Vacation b/c I know Ken really enjoys it.  And so do I.  However, I guess I have only been watching the "made for TV edited" version.  Oopsy doodle.  A few more swears in the one I selected.  But let's be serious - it's not like Jason hasn't heard those words before. 

Christmas morning Maddie was thrilled to discover a Journey Girl (similar to American Girl, but available at Toys R Us) and two out fits in her stocking.  This was a very late addition to her list but she as she explained to Grandma:  "Mommy and Daddy texted Santa".  So it was no problem.  Santa however, did seem to forget to include the Furby Talks A Lot.  A real shame. 

It was so cold this year so we didn't play outside quite as much as planned.  Ok, I didn't go outside.  Period.  But Maddie went out a couple of times.  And then came back in.

 Maddie and I spent an afternoon decorating together.  At one point she looked over to me and said "Mommy, isn't this the greatest day ever?".  Yes it was. 

 

Jason has been playing guitar a lot lately.  It's one of my favorite sounds.  

So glad Santa received that text. 

Watching iCarly in our bedroom. Notice Maddie's little bed on the floor beside us.  She slept there until 8 a.m. Christmas morning! 

Our First Piano Recital

This afternoon we attended Hawk's Nest Studio's Christmas Recital, mostly of course to see Madeleine perform! It was held in a church in Warman. About two hours of different variations of about 5 Christmas carols. A little bit of repetition, but students played piano, guitar, and also sang so there was enough variety.

At about the 1 hour 40 minute mark I started to get restless. And I'll admit it - bored. Then Jason, always knowing just what to say to me, leaned over and whispered "we are so lucky to be able to be at one of these today".

Wow. So true. We ARE so lucky. Lucky Maddie was even born (since it felt like she took her sweet time about it). Lucky she has hands that do what her brain tells them. Lucky she enjoys music. And I'm going to say it: Lucky she wasn't at an elementary school in CT yesterday. Maddie is such a gift and every day we are so grateful for her.

Oh - and (Mom, Karen, and Pam, you'll appreciate this) - Santa came at the end. Did you know Santa can play guitar and sing? Anyway, he came in, sang a couple of songs - one being "Christmas in Killarney!" Did you sing, Jenn? Hells yes.
